Lakers wait to receive results of Bynum's MRI

The Los Angeles Lakers expect to receive MRI results on center Andrew Bynum's right knee injury Sunday night. Bynum was hurt in the first quarter of Saturday night's win at Memphis. Kobe Bryant drove to the basket, missed the shot and crashed into Bynum's right leg. Bynum immediately grabbed his knee. Bynum missed the final 46 games of last season with a left knee injury. The big bad twosome that dominating the top of Outsider's power rankings in 2008 is back at the top for the first time in '09. Orlando dropped three spots to number four after topping my rankings last week, while the Miami Heat have surged into the top 10 for the first time this season.

The Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers' Andrew Bynum have been named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the period ending January 25. Though the Lakers were missing two key reserves, their bench still played well against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. It's just that San Antonio's bench was more productive. Roger Mason nailed a three pointer with just 10 seconds left as the San Antonio Spurs edged the Los Angeles Lakers 112-111. After Kobe Bryant drilled a three-pointer over Mason that gave the Lakers a 111-109 lead with 12 seconds left, the Spurs called a timeout, setting up Mason for the heroics. Matt Bonner had trouble inbounding the ball, but found Mason in the corner.
