Don't call him a Wizard Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson has no problem ripping or downright insulting his players. Step forward Sasha Vujacic, who apparently is in Jackson's doghouse for a series of not so intelligent plays recently. "We just had to come to the conclusion that Sasha's just an emotional player that plays by the seat of his pants, and that's about it. He just doesn't have a brain," Jackson told reporters on Friday. "He's just out there whacking away and working really hard. He's not using his head out there at times. We're...read full article

New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul is becoming known as one of the biggest trash-talkers in the NBA.
The way Phil Jackson described Sasha Vujacic before Friday night's game, you'd think he might send the Lakers guard to visit the Wizard of Oz. Asked about Vujacic's tendency to engage in soap opera histrionics every time an opposing player mouths off to him or a call goes against him, Jackson said semi-seriously that Vujacic sometimes plays as though "he just doesn't have a brain."
"We've just had to come to the conclusion that Sasha is just an emotional player that plays by the seat of his pants, and that's about it," Jackson said. "He's just whacking away...read full article

Hornets' Chris Paul talks trash
New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul is becoming known as one of the biggest trash-talkers in the NBA. He has this angelic-looking face, the face of a choir boy. But many around the league say he is anything but that. In fact, just ask Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic. When the Lakers played the Hornets recently, Vujacic said Paul called him a name that rhymes with witch.

Sasha After Shootaround = Success

Lakers.com is fully willing to take credit for Sasha Vujacic’s best home games.
We can’t explain exactly why it works like this, but when Sasha sits down with us after shootaround before home games, he balls out.
During Sunday’s beating of Golden State, Vujacic was 6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-7 from three for a season-high 17 points, plus a season-high six assists, two boards and a steal … Not to mention only two turnovers while serving as the backup point guard in the absence of Jordan Farmar, and some tough defense against smaller guards on the perimeter. Not coincidentally, he appeared on Lakers.com that...read full article

Lakers have Sasha, why make a trade?
With Farmar out, give the shooter more minutes.
Not just because Jordan Farmar, with the added kick of youth in his recovery, is such a hard worker that rehab will more likely go better than worse. Not just because Derek Fisher is a lot smarter than your average 34-year-old pro athlete about managing himself and his minutes.
Not just because Milwaukee showcased Tyronn Lue for the Lakers on Saturday night and he couldn’t stick with Allen Iverson or hit a single shot in seven attempts. The Lakers should go with more Sasha just because life is so much more interesting with him. Sasha Vujacic licks his fingers and wets down his eyebrows before shooting free throws. He has lip-reading conversations with courtside fan David Beckham way across the Staples Center floor...read full article

Sasha Vujacic gets shot at the point for Lakers
The Lakers have a void at point guard because of an injury. In Sasha Vujacic's eyes, he is capable of filling that role. The Lakers have a need for a backup point guard because Jordan Farmar had surgery on his left knee for torn cartilage and will be out for eight weeks. Vujacic pointed out he came into the NBA as a point guard. He also pointed out how in Lakers Coach Phil Jackson's offense there is a two-guard front in which both guards can facilitate the offense. "Phil knows that I can play at that position," Vujacic said. "I really feel...read full article

"The Machine" is working again.
Sasha Vujacic participated through the entirety of Monday’s practice, saying that he had a little discomfort in his ankle but no sharp pain. He didn’t want to push off it too much, and won’t play in L.A.’s preseason game in San Diego on Tuesday. However, he does feel good about his progress and will see how the ankle responds to a day’s worth of activity.
